When i first saw this movie the summer of 04….it seemed so profound, meaniful, whimsical and revalatory. i rewatched it for the first time two nights ago and it just seemed trite, zach braff seemed insincire and natile portman was fricking annoying (how was he so attracted to her- she was a wacko who had the maturity of a 12 year old!?)

So i signed up for “blackboard eats” and boy was that a good decision. every few weeks you get a awesome discount at one of NYC’s trendy restaurants. Last month it was 30% off your entire bill at The Harrison in Tribeca. Last night Mike and I went to the Braeburn in the west village. We stumbled through the snow down to a cozy corner on Perry street and voila, Braeburn sat, tucked away, warm and inviting on a bitterly cold night. all the waiters wear the new ‘hunter chic’ ensamble- i asked our waiter if they were issued the plaid flannel tops but he said they could pick their own. very bklyn bearded hipster. cute.

mike and i drank beer all night- pork slap and abita. cheapest choices on the menu. go us.

nice mushroom foam soup amuse bouche and delectable buttermilk biscuits. the service wasnt GREAT—- they seemed a little overwhelmed…but it was kind of nice bc we didnt feel rushed and just kind of enjoyed our food at a leisurely pace.

i got the cauliflower and fries to start. the cauliflower was perfectly roasted and complimented nicely with golden raisins and pine nuts. it was a nice sized portion for a ‘side’ - the fries were golden and well seasoned.

mike opted for the restaurant week menu and got the cold spinich ap….a little too ‘soy saucy’ for me.

i got the ‘beet and goat cheese fondue’ salad….amaaazing. so good. mike got the chicken. ive gotten him to not want red meat anymore, but im not sure he can walk away from chicken. nobody’s perfect.

we got the carrot cake for desert. yummy and small portion but i was pretty full by then.

all in all, i’d give it a 7 out of 10. the portions were sizable, everything was good, ambiance was nice and rustic….cozy and well lit with candles. we left satiated and with a package of complimentary cookies!
